| Lesedi FM’s 51st Birthday Celebration |

The Sedibeng District Municipality is pleased to have successfully hosted Lesedi FM’s 51st Birthday celebrations on Saturday, 25th June 2011 at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Sebokeng. This historic event was kick started on Saturday morning with entertainment rendered by various artists who came from all over the country and Lesotho.
The celebration was attended by the Executive Mayor of Lesedi Local Municipality; Sedibeng District Municipality MMCs; Emfuleni Local Municipality MMCs and other councillors, Lesedi FM’s Management, DJs and presenters who mesmerized their listeners through song and a dance.
At this historic event, twenty (20) wheelchairs were handed over to people with disability. Lesedi FM broadcasts to an audience with age group ranging from 16 to 80 living in urban and rural African communities and was started in 1960. It was formerly known as the Radio Bantu - the first Sesotho station launched by the SABC, Frequency: 88.30 to 90.6 FM with its broadcasting footprint including the Free State; Gauteng; Mpumalanga; Eastern Cape; and North West. It is broadcast 24-hours a day, seven-days a week.
The party brought all listeners from different walks of life, around Sedibeng and outside the Gauteng Province.
Their build up programmes started with programmes such as Imatlafatse and Bua le Yona being broadcast live from the Vereeniging Taxi Rank on Thursday, 23rd June 2011; Mathemalodi, Imatlafatse, Bua le Yona and Rea Kubeletsa which were broadcast live from Rhoda Yende Community Hall in Sharpeville and Chesa Nyama (Mid - Corner) in Zone 14 Sebokeng respectively.
"The birthday is a real success and the station went a long way in achieving its goals in informing the listeners and the great support the audience have shown us as the Lesedi FM. I am encouraging you to keep listening and giving us feedback on what we do, this celebration is for all of us”, said the Lesedi FM Station Manager, Mr. Pulapula Mothibi acknowledging the listenership of the Station.
We are here not to only celebrate our birthday but to strengthen the partnership and relationship with the Sedibeng District Municipality and yourselves and present our contribution to people who work hard to ensure the care of disable individuals in their centers”, added the Lesedi FM Station Manager in acknowledging the work of the Lesedi FM and the role played by the Sedibeng District Municipality.
The Acting Executive Mayor of the Sedibeng District Municipality: MMC Maipato Tsokolibane said that it was not strange that Lesedi FM choose Sedibeng for their fifty first birthday celebration as they have been in partnership on various programmes for many years.

I take this opportunity and say Happy 51st Birthday to Lesedi FM. May you see many successes. Lehole le kgokgobe”, added the Acting Executive Mayor of the Sedibeng District Municipality: MMC Maipato Tsokolibane when presenting the Lesedi FM Management & Presenters with their Station’s birthday present.
Various South African and Lesotho artists graced the occasion and provided mesmerizing music to the Lesedi FM listeners who came in numbers to see their favourite DJs and presenters and at the same time celebrate their Station’s 51st birthday with them.
