Study tour to Buffalo City 19 Sep 2011

The leadership of the Sedibeng District Municipality undertook a Study Tour of Buffalo City from 7-8 September 2011. The purpose of the tour was to look at the development of Buffalo City (East London) which was awarded metro status after the May 2011 elections. The delegation from Sedibeng included Executive Mayors, Speakers, Chief Whips as well as officials and political leaders. The delegation were well received and the tour included an visit by senior officials of Sedibeng to a Senior Management meeting, presentations by the Acting City Manager and an extensive deliberation into the move to metro status by Buffalo City.

A visit to  the East London IDZ was also included. The second leg of the study tours will be undertaken shortly as a Sedibeng delegation visits Mangaung (Bloemfontein)who also became a Metro after May 2011. With the future of Gauteng destined to become a province exclusively of metropolitan councils, Sedibeng District is currently examining various aspects of forms of governance to move seamlessly towards the future Gauteng form.
