A delegation of the Sedibeng District, and its 3 Local Municipalities, completed the second-leg of a Study Tour on metropolitan forms of government when it visited Mangaung Metro in the Free State Province.
The meetings were held in the Braam Fischer Building in Bloemfontein. The tour format replicated the one that was followed during the visit to Buffalo City earlier in the month. The Sedibeng Delegation was warmly received by the Mangaung Executive Mayor, Cllr. Thabo Manyoni, who is also the newly elected national chairperson of SALGA.
In his welcome address, Executive Mayor Manyoni expressed a great affinity for Sedibeng by revealing that he grew up in Evaton and also used to hunt in Henley-on-Klip. The Speaker of the Mangaung Metro Council, Cllr. Connie Rampai, the Deputy Mayor, Cllr. Mxolisi Siyonzana and the Chief Whip, Cllr. Zolile Mancotywa were part of the formal engagements in which the Mangaung Metro presented their experiences in moving towards a Metropolitan Council which happened on the 18th May 2011. With the future form of the Gauteng province destined to be exclusively made up of Metro’s, the Sedibeng District is exploring the best options towards such a possibility.
