The SUBCF is part of a New Growth Path that the Sedibeng District municipality is embarking on. The New Growth Path requires that government must prioritise its own efforts and resources more rigorously to support employment creation and equity; business must take on the challenge of investing in new areas; and business and labour together must work with government to address inefficiencies and constraints across the economy and partner to create new decent work opportunities.
The coordination of these economic activities in conjunction with the private sector is in line with the function of the district as dictated to by the Municipal Structures Act.
“With the establishment of the Sedibeng United Business Chambers Forum, we recognise the role of private sector in the economy of our region as important, mutual and beneficial to all role-players. It is in this regard that as part of our regular stakeholder engagement and public participation and consultation processes we found it imperative to bring the business sector under one roof to establish this strategic Forum”, said the Executive Mayor, Cllr. MS Mofokeng.
The launch of the business forum will be followed by a series of activities which will include workshops, seminars, conferences and other related activities aimed at strengthening the role of business sector in particular. There is an urgent need for the government and business sector within Sedibeng District Municipality to engage and respond to issues relating to unemployment, economic decline, new policy shifts and new areas of economic opportunities/growth.
The event was lead by MMC of Strategic Planning & Economic Development Cllr. Maipato Tsokolibane and was attended by Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Cllr. MS Mofokeng, Speaker of Midvaal Municipality Cllr. AR McLaughlin, Chief Whip of Sedibeng District Cllr. C Sale, MMC LED Cllr.
