[Parys, 08.03.2012] The Sedibeng District and its three local Municipalities, Emfuleni, Midvaal and Lesedi took two days away to work on aligning the 5-year IDP’s and Budgets of each Municipality. By the end of March 2012, all Councils will adopt the next 5-Year IDP’s, which will be subjected to public scrutiny during the month of April 2012.
Following this public participation process, each of the four Municipalities will adopt the final IDP and Budget at the end of May 2012. Included in the two-day retreat, was an overview of the key aspects of the review of Growth and Development Strategy which that was first adopted in 2007.
The revised Growth and Development Strategy (GDS-02) will form the long-term development plan for the IDP’s and Budgets to be adopted. The retreat which included of the Executive Mayors, Speakers, Chief-Whips and all MMC’s of the four Municipalities as well as senior officials also looked at the financial projections for 2012-2016, the flagship projects to be implemented for this period, as well as the Spatial Development Framework which will be followed. Communities are urged to keep a look out for public notices in wards as well as notices of stakeholder and sectorial consultations that will be held during April 2012 on the IDP’s and Budgets.
