Salga Elects New Leadership 03 Oct 2016


Cllr. Busisiwe Modisakeng is the first female to be elected Chairperson of Salga..

 

The Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Councillor Busisiwe Modisakeng, was elected unopposed as the Chairperson of the Provincial Executive Committee for South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in Gauteng on Friday, 30 September at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.

Following her election Councillor Modisakeng said “It is such an honour to be elected as the first female provincial chairperson in Gauteng since the recognition of SALGA as the representative of Developmental Local Government. As a new Provincial Executive Committee, we will carry the baton from the previous leadership and promise to continue to drive the developmental local government agenda”.

Elected Members of the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) include:
Deputy Chairperson: Councillor Patricia Khumalo, Speaker of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council;
Deputy Chairperson: Councillor Patrick Dipudi, Chief Whip in Mogale City
PEC Additional Member: Councillor Matshidiso Mfikoe from the City of Joburg
PEC Additional Member: Councillor Nonkoliso Tunzi, Speaker of the West Rand District Council
PEC Additional Member: Councillor Mapiti Matsena from the City of Tshwane
PEC Additional Member: Councillor Jongisizwe Hlabathi, Chief Whip in the City of Ekurhuleni


The conference left one (1) vacant position for the Deputy Chairperson and two (2) for the Additional Members. These, conference resolved would be filled within 30 days.
