Alpine Heath Retreat - Towards Improved Integration

In a District Municipality, such as Sedibeng, with Local Municipalities it is therefore imperative that the IDP’s are well aligned and complimentary to each other.

The Sedibeng District Municipality, together with its three locals (Midvaal, Lesedi and Emfuleni) took a significant step in this regard when all key politicians and officials retreated to the Drakensberg to spend three days thrashing out the alignment of their respective IDP’s.

A precondition for successful alignment was to gain clarity on the distribution of Powers and Functions between the District and the Locals. This complex matter came under intense discussion and progress in this regard was noted.

The Spatial Development Frameworks of the District and the Locals were also subjected to alignment to ensure that land use management was consistent and that private sector investment would be directed optimally to address the challenges of unemployment and poverty.

The outcomes of the retreat will be factored into the draft IDP’s as all municipalities will adopt their final IDP’s and Budgets by the end of May 2007.

Members of the public are encouraged to access the District and Local IDP’s on the respective websites and submit comments.
