Appointment of Executive Directors for Sedibeng District Council

11.01.2007] The Sedibeng District Mayor Clr Mlungisi longwane and his Executive Council are pleased to announce the appointment of Five New Executive Directors to lead the council’s five clusters for the next five years.

The appointment of Executive Directors follows an extensive transparent process of recruitment and selection.

The panel was impressed by the quality of the majority of the candidates and had a tough task in identifying the most suitable candidates.

They were guided by the need to build a strong team and sought to achieve a balance of race, gender, local and new experience, formal and informal experience as well as a balance between professional or technical and managerial or generalist expertise.

The appointments of Executive Directors are as follows:

1. Cluster of Community Services Ms Morongwe Mazibuko
2. Cluster of Planning and Economic Development: Mr Yunus Chamda
3. Cluster of Transport, Infrastructure and Environment: Mr Sorrius Manele
4. Cluster of Corporate Services: Mr Simon Mofokeng
5. Chief Financial Officer: Mr Brendon Scholtz

“I am convinced that this team will be able to lead Sedibeng to new heights and successfully implement our Growth and Development Strategy and put on us a strong footing to become the Fourth Metro, in Gauteng Province said Mayor Hlongwane.

The successful candidates will receive their appointment letters soon and it is hoped that they will commence their duties by 01 February 2007.

“I would like to take the opportunity to welcome the new appointments to the team of Sedibeng’ and call on all staff to do the same and make them feel at home’, said Municipal Manager, Lisa Seftel.

She also thanked the present Acting Executive Managers who have been serving the council with loyalty and dedication. 

Below are brief résumé’s of the successful candidates:

Yunus Chamda: Strategic Planning and Economic Development.
Yunus Chamda has been a previous Mayor, MMC and Speaker in Emfuleni and holds BA (Hons) Public Governance & Development including the Masters in Public Management & Development. He has played various leadership roles in Sedibeng.

Sorrius Manele: Transport, Infrastructure and Environment.
He is presently Manager: Technical Services at Waterberg District Municipality and has Masters in Water Engineering and Environmental Resource Management.

Morongwe Mazibuko: Community Services
Ms. Morongwe Mazibuko is presently holding a similar position in Westonaria Local Municipality. She has a background in Health Services. She holds Masters in Development and Management and has Honours BA in Nursing Services Management.

Mr Mahole Simon Mofokeng: Corporate Services
Mr Mahole Mofokeng has been an MMC in Emfuleni as well as holding other leadership and community positions. He has a National Diploma in Chemical Engineering and has Certificate in Executive Strategic Leadership including Municipal Management Development Program.

Mr Brendon Scholtz: Chief Financial Officer
Brendon Scholtz has extensive experience in Local Government Finance.  He holds a National Diploma in Accounting and has a Project Management Diploma.  He holds various modules of Local Government Finance and Accounting certificates and is a member of IPFA.  He is currently completing his B.TECH  in Corporate Administration.
