Sedibeng Gospel Festival


All the tickets were sold out for this spectacular event
  The department of Sports, Recreation, Arts, Culture and Heritage hosted the Sedibeng Gospel Festival on the 13 December 2009 at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre. Featured artists included: William Sejake; Kgotoso Makgalema and the Vaal Community Choir.

Calling all tourism volunteers in Sedibeng

  The Sedibeng District Municipality, in partnership with Gauteng Toursim Authority (GTA), is calling all tourism students and previously disadvantaged and unemployed citizens with a tourism background to register for the 2010 Tourism Volunteer Programme.

State of the District Address - Boipatong remembered


The Executive Mayor delivers the State of the District address in Boipatong
  The event kicked-off with an early morning visit to the resting place of the fallen heroes and heroines of Boipatong. The event culminated in a massively attended state of the district address by the Executive Mayor Mahole Mofokeng at the stadium.

  Vaal River Carnival celebrates its 7th year with a revamped, exiting and fun filled calendar of events from 28 August to 28 September 2009. The Vaal River Carnival is a joint venture between Emfuleni Local Municipality, Sedibeng District Municipality, local business as well as the Vaal community at large to promote diversity and understanding between different races and cultures.

Sedibeng Aids Cultural Exhibitions


Executive Mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality Cllr. Mahole Simon Mofokeng addresses the gathering at the launch of the SACE week
  The Sedibeng Aids Cultural Exhibitions (SACE) was launched at the Vaal Show grounds on the 29 September 2009. This inaugural weeklong event seeks to raise funds for AIDS orphans and other Aids Charities in the Sedibeng region. The event is organised by the Sedibeng District Municipality in partnership with the Emfuleni, Lesedi and Midvaal local Municipalities as well as other key Government departments such as the departments of Education, Health, Home Affairs, Correctional Services, Social Development, Labour, SARS and SAPS. The event takes place from the 29 September to the 2 October 2009.

Sedibeng Celebrates Womans Month

  The year 2009, marks the seventh anniversary of the women month celebrations. 2009 is special in many aspects, since it will be the first time that municipalities in Sedibeng manage the programme without Lesedi fm. It is also the first time the programme could reach proportional heights and introduce sustainable programmes.

Sedibeng takes learner to school

  The Sedibeng District Municipality celebrated Africa Day – May 25 – in style this year by hosting nineteen "freedom children" at its offices.

The 1994-born children are all learners from various schools in the district invited by the Office of the Speaker to kick-start a popular "Take a learner to work" campaign.

Sedibeng EMS Department brings joy to Samanco Children and the Staff


EMS Department contributes to Kotulong Centre
  Amid a chilling winter cold, members of the Sebokeng-based Emergency Municipal Services (EMS) gave a sigh of bliss to the HIV-aids-infected children at the Kotulong Centre, formerly Samanco centre.

The centre was started at the Sebokeng EMS by Mathapelo Mokoena, an HIV-Aids positive person and also peer-educator about the disease.

Young Sedibenger off to the Baltic region


The Executive Mayor wishes young David Basson well
  The next month will be one of the most memorable in the life of a young David Basson. Apart from turning thirteen on day one of that month, this Vryheids Monument scholar jets-off for the boating-championships held in the almost land-locked Baltic sea region in July.

He will be in the former Soviet republic of Estonia for the world boating championships scheduled for July 10-12.

Health Summit

  The Sedibeng Health department held its district-wide Health Summit at the Quest Conference centre in Vanderbijlpark recently. Held annually, the regional summit evolves from a similar provincial health summit held by the Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH).

Opening the summit, MMC for health and community safety Cllr Tsokolibane gave a brief socio-economic overview of the region, Sedibeng.

Unique soccer foundation launched in Sedibeng

  It is now official, the South African chapter of the Aaron Mokoena Foundation is up and running. Initiated by Aaron Mokoena himself, the foundation is aimed at developing the the standard of football in the region.

Prior to the glittering launch at the Emerald Casino in Vanderbijlpark, the aspirant soccer-stars and their coaches converged for a soccer clinic at the Boipatong stadium.

Public Service Day


A surprise visit to emergency services to entrench the principals of Public Service.
  While some staff at the Sedibeng District Municipality joined millions around the world in celebration of the actual day, Public Service Day on June 23, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon congratulated this year's winners of the United Nations Public Service Awards in New York.

This year's winners are from Canada, South Korea, Sweden, Zambia, South Africa, Thailand, Slovenia, Egypt, Oman, India and Poland.
