March 2010 Human Rights Festival

50th Anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre   The Sedibeng District Municipality proudly presents the programme of events that will be hosted during this years Human Rights Month.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Sharpeville Massacre and the Municipality will commemorate the fallen heroes and heroines of this and other such massacres.

Detail Sedibeng District Municipality: Environment Department in collaboration with Emfuleni Local Municipality will be hosting an event for the celebration of the World Wetlands Day to sensitise and encourage the citizens of Emfuleni to be environmentally conscious. Chief amongst the daily activities will be cleaning up of waste, planting of trees and water quality testing activities.

Mahole Simon Mofokeng, takes this opportunity to inform and invite the Evaton Community, the broader community stakeholders and the people of Sedibeng in particular to the Nangalembe Massacre Commemoration to be held under the theme: RETRACING OUR FOOTPRINTS IN THE LAST TWELVE MONTHS OF THE 15 YEARS OF DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT IN SEDIBENG - “Siyanikhumbula Maqhawe”
The formal programme on the day will be preceded by the visit to the Evaton graveyard at 06h30, to pay homage and honour to the fallen heroines and heroes of our struggle.
