Journey of the Living History

1960 Sharpeville Survivors came face to face with other locals who were survivors of the Gugulethu and Langa Massacres. They shared their common experiences and found solace and healing in the process.

The survivors visited the Robben Island, were they left a Human Rights Plaque. They also visited the Historical Museum and Langa Secondary School to share their experiences with the students. Executive Mayor Hlongwane was lauded by the group when they sang “Mlungisi uyilungisile” (Mlungisi made it happen)

On the last day the survivors visited the National Parliament and were welcomed by Rivonia Treason Trialist, and now Member of Parliament, Mr. Andrew Mlangeni. They were acknowledged by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Baleka Mbethe, and President Thabo Mbeki for their presence in Parliament.

Sedibeng District Municipality would like to thank the Western Provincial Government, MITTAL SA, South African Railway Commuter Corporation (SARCC Shosholoza) EURO SPAR in Three Rivers, and the SABC for sponsoring this Journey of the Living History.
