Sedibeng Excels at Schools Debate

[12.02.08] Leonard Mangoenyane, a pupil at Vaal High School in Vanderbijlpark, has successfully been chosen to compete in a national debating competition in Cape Town.

Leonard was the overall winner of the Sedibeng debating competition, recently held at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls. His win ensured his entry into the Provincial competition.

Government Communications and Information Systems (GCIS), together with the District and Metropolitan Municipalities in Gauteng, hosted the annual schools debating competition on 12 February 2008 at the Mayor’s Chamber at Erkurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. The Executive Mayor of Erkurhuleni, Clr Duma Nkosi, was present to welcome all to the event.

The topic of the debate was “Today is better than yesterday” and had to be themed around the State President’s State of the Nation Address, which was delivered on 8 February 2008.

Leonard Mangoenyane again wowed the audience and adjudicators and is one of only three pupils selected from the competition to compete in Cape Town.

Well done, Leonard!
